Clements Unit Release Paths

William P. Clements Unit, code BC, is operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division. It stands east of Amarillo off Loop 335 on Spur 591. TDCJ lists it as a male prison with a capacity of 3,182 and custody levels G1 through G5, security detention, and specialized mental-health custody. The official Clements page also identifies the unit as a Regional Release Site.

That designation is crucial, but easy to misread. A person who physically walks out at Clements has a TDCJ release, not a Potter County jail release. The person may leave on parole, mandatory supervision, or full discharge. A departure can instead be an internal transfer, a bench-warrant movement, a hospital movement, or delivery to another custodian. The release-processing site is a logistics fact. TDCJ’s dated status and release record establish the legal event.

Search Clements Offender Records

Begin with the TDCJ Inmate Information Search. It accepts last name, first name, TDCJ number, SID number, gender, race, and a partial-name option. Numeric identifiers reduce mistaken identity. A Potter County SO number or jail booking number is not a TDCJ number.

TDCJ describes the search as current-inmate information. It is at least 24 hours old and updates on working days. A returned detail can show the TDCJ number, SID, current unit or status, offense and sentence data, projected release date, parole eligibility date, and maximum sentence date. Save the record date. None of those future fields proves that a release occurred.

1. Search by TDCJ or SID number when known.
2. Match name, sentence, offense, and unit.
3. Record each date with its exact label.
4. If the person disappears, move to TDCJ information, IVSS, and records channels.

A missing result does not affirm release. The former prisoner may have left the current-search population, the data may be updating, or the search terms may be incomplete. The Potter County released inmate search provides the wider cross-check sequence.

Read Clements Release Dates

A projected release date is TDCJ’s current calculation under the sentence and credit rules. It can move after recalculation, lost good time, a new sentence, a detainer, a corrected judgment, or a parole decision. A parole eligibility date only identifies when statutory prerequisites permit review. It is not an appointment, approval, or release date. The maximum sentence date is the calculated endpoint of the sentence structure, but other lawful custody may still exist.

Good-conduct time can affect eligibility under Texas law. It does not rewrite the judicial sentence. Offense type, offense date, sentence structure, mandatory-supervision exclusions, disciplinary history, and Board action can change the route. Clements Release Record Request

When the current search no longer returns the person, use TDCJ’s offender-information channels and its Public Information Act request route. Identify the person by full name, TDCJ number, SID, date of birth when known, and sentence or cause information. Ask for the actual release date, release type, release unit, destination when recorded, and current discharge or supervision status.

Keep the request narrow. A broad institutional file or “pen packet” can contain confidential material and may require more redaction, review, or cost. A focused request for release fields is easier to match. If any portion is withheld, ask for the legal basis and all segregable public material. Texas Government Code Chapter 552 applies to the state request, but no fixed turnaround should be promised.

The Clements unit phone is useful for facility operations. It is not the statewide archive for every former prisoner. TDCJ OGC owns records requests, Parole Division owns supervision, and the Board owns parole decisions. Sending each question to its custodian avoids a circular search.

Clements Regional Release Site

A regional release site can process people assigned elsewhere. Therefore the county of conviction, last housing unit, release site, approved release county, and supervision office can all differ. A person sentenced in Potter County may serve time outside Potter County and later leave through Clements. Another person may be released at Clements without a Potter County conviction.

Family pickup plans do not prove legal status. Confirm the release date and site through current TDCJ information before travel. Ask the appropriate TDCJ contact about current pickup instructions because operational details can change. A Board approval code also does not guarantee immediate physical departure. Some vote codes require a program, transfer, or later specified month before release processing can finish.

For an FI-1 result, release is authorized when eligible. FI-2 identifies a future specified release month or date. Other FI codes can require a program first. A denial or later review code is not a release. Approval may also be withdrawn or rescinded if new information changes the case. The final processing record closes the gap between decision and exit.

Clements Parole Follow-Up

Parole and mandatory supervision both allow community release while legal supervision continues. They are not full sentence discharge. TDCJ Parole Division manages field supervision, while the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles decides parole and discretionary mandatory-supervision matters. Ordinary parole review is a file-voting process, not a public courtroom hearing with an individual calendar.

The Amarillo Board office is in Suite 200 at the same street address and uses (806) 359-7656. Proximity can cause confusion. Use TDCJ IVSS for state custody, parole, and discharge events when available. Potter County’s IVSS Counties service is a different feed for county jail events. A transfer from the county jail into TDCJ may require following both systems. Save dated alerts, but confirm consequential details with TDCJ because agency feeds and delivery can lag.

Clements and Neal History

Clements is the current active TDCJ prison in Potter County and the official regional release site. Older maps, articles, and government documents may refer to the neighboring Nathaniel J. Neal Unit or use a combined Neal/Clements label. According to the 2024 Texas Sunset staff report, Neal was completely idled in 2020. It is absent from TDCJ’s current statewide unit table.

This is the distinctive local trap for release research. An old search result can direct a family to a noncurrent facility. Use the current TDCJ unit directory and the person’s current offender detail instead of relying on an archived address or an aggregator. Legacy naming does not create a current Neal placement, and it does not change which agency owns the record.

If an older court or prison document says Neal, preserve that wording as historical evidence, then reconcile it with later TDCJ movements. The correct release chain follows the person’s TDCJ identifiers and dated unit history to the actual release site.

Clements Photos and Identity

A current TDCJ detail may include an institutional image. TDCJ’s simplified email information service says photographs are not supplied through that basic route. Parole Division public-information policy identifies a releasee’s TDCJ-CID photograph among information that may be available by request. Ask TDCJ OGC for the identified photograph and allow the agency to review applicable restrictions.

Do not substitute a PCSO booking photograph for the state image. Each belongs to a different episode and custodian. An image proves neither current confinement nor release. Match full name, TDCJ number, SID, sentence, and other reliable identifiers before connecting it to a Clements record. Avoid assuming that two similar names refer to the same person.

Clements Transfer Versus Release

An internal TDCJ transfer means confinement continues at another unit. A bench-warrant movement can place a prisoner temporarily with a court or local jail while TDCJ custody remains relevant. Hospital movement is not discharge. Delivery to another sovereign can also continue custody. Ask for the departure event code, effective date, and receiving location instead of drawing a conclusion from physical absence.

A county roster entry reading “sentenced TDCJ” is only the county side of the path. It may show that the person awaits state transfer. Confirm actual receipt in TDCJ before reporting a Clements placement. Conversely, release at Clements remains a TDCJ event even though the unit sits within Potter County. PCSO does not become the custodian of that prison release record.

Use the inmate-information search for current confinement, OGC/Public Information for former-inmate release records, Parole Division for field supervision, IVSS for available notifications, and the Board for decision correspondence.

A reliable conclusion states the record owner and date. “Released from Clements on parole” differs from “discharged from TDCJ,” and both differ from “transferred from Clements.” Keeping those labels intact protects the meaning of the official record.
